Anger is Powerful

I have always had anger issues throughout my life that have made things unpleasant for me and those around me at times. Why do we get angry? Where does all that energy come from? Some people say that fear can lead us to getting angry. While, I tend to believe in this when I think about the times I get angry. I usually have felt like I did not measure up now or maybe something did not go my way. It sucks having a short trigger and when it hits you better get out of the way. I have worked on this by trying not to react. I was always reacting, reacting, reacting to everything around me and that was not healthy for myself. Now, I like the method of counting to 10, but I would say count until you can feel yourself starting to calm down and relax. Instead of reacting, take a minute to think of what has just happened to lead you to this anger, reflect on why you are specifically feeling this way, then say something positive about yourself. After you have calmed down, go back to any parties affected by your anger, apologize if you need to, and then you can move on. When you give in to the anger and react and not reflect, you can say some things that you will regret later. Whenever you are having a fight with someone, reflect and do not react. Thinking also takes your mind off the anger, which will decrease its power. When you continually think about something, then you know the urge becomes stronger. An example of this, is when you must go pee. Over time, then it becomes a positive habit and you will have a system in place to support yourself. It can be dangerous when you suddenly strike into anger-mode. I have dealt with this my entire life. Recently, after years of struggling and not seeing the bad patters my life is different. Now, when I get angry, I try to follow the system in place for myself. I still slip up at times and make mistakes, but I can recognize and see the anger when I am blind to it. Anger can cause a lot of problems in your life, but it is healthy to get angry. Anger can be a powerful motivator for change and improvement, but those will only last with continued effort and discipline. I wanted to share this, because I believe in my life this has been important and beneficial. If it can help other people as well, that is a bonus!
