I wanted to look today at two of my favorite bad guys in movie history: T-1000 (Terminator 2), Biff Tannen (Back to the Future). They were both scary to me at times and amusing at other times. This is relatable because they both have qualities like the people we encounter in our lives. Now the T-1000, one positive thing about him he always went all out to try to accomplish his mission such as chasing John Connor throughout the movie. It was also cool that he could regenerate and became impenetrable to most things that came his way. He showed the power you want to be able to demonstrate at times in real life and he would be successful under pressure. The fact he was able to mask his voice to the people he hurt, though was a negative. He was trying to deceive and con John, which you must never tolerate. While he died in the end, he showed us strength and determination. He did not accomplish his goal in the movie, but he did try his best. Biff on the other hand, was more of a bully. He reminds me of the bullies I have seen and dealt with throughout my life. Biff has good and certainly negative qualities. He is aggressive, which gives him respect, and makes him feared. Biff has a big stature, so that if you mess with him, he can hurt you very badly. His negative qualities were that we were not very smart. He fell into traps easily and failed in his goals. In Back to the Future Two he had succeeded for a bit in the movie. He cheats, gambles, drinks, and has been known to be rough with women. He had the confidence you would love to have surrounded by the intelligence you would dread. While both characters are bad, there are lessons to learn about the human behavior they show. We should never try to copy ourselves to be like these characters, but we can take elements of them and use them for our benefit. The point of this was these are two of my favorite characters and wanted to analyze how they stack up against each other. We are always rooting for the good guys in the movies, but sometimes we can find it more thrilling to cheer for the bad guy. A part of us can identify with the character (if the writing is good). When you have strong characters, I feel that it can make the entertainment even better. What would you do if you had to do something bad to get the reward? I am guessing people would say how big the reward is and what exactly is the terrible thing I am doing. I think the act of doing something bad is what the issue is for me. That would go against my values. Now people may bend values or say what is the harm but trust your instincts on what is right and not right for you. Never let anyone talk you into anything that gives you that bad feeling. I have had those bad feelings those are your instincts trying to protect you. When you feel something is off, listen to it. I did not listen to it at times, and it has been 100% right. Cheers to you Biff and the T-1000!
